About Us

GM Trades started over 30 years ago as a one-man operation, founded by Grant Marshall in sunny Nelson. He specialised in brick-laying, block-laying, and plastering, and quickly built a reputation for quality work and attention to detail. Over time, he expanded his skillset to include tiling, which became another key part of the business.

Around 12 years ago, Grant’s son Bryce began a building apprenticeship, gaining experience with a range of companies. He also spent two years working in Canada, where he developed his skills on high-end residential builds. When he returned to Nelson, Bryce joined his father, and together they grew GM Trades into a trusted, family-run business. Known for their perfectionism and pride in their work, Grant and Bryce have built strong relationships with clients, leading to many repeat customers and word-of-mouth referrals.

The team has grown to include two experienced tilers, Jon and Daniel, whose skills have added even more depth to the services GM Trades offers.

We also work closely with reliable electricians, plumbers, and other contractors. These partnerships help us deliver smooth, well-coordinated projects - especially during renovations or new additions where timing and teamwork are crucial. Whether it's a bathroom renovation, a new outdoor space, or a custom build, we make sure every detail is done right.
